My Philosophy of Teaching Literacy with Technology
A chalkboard was a tool when I was in my early years of elementary school. When I reached my middle school years the schools were replacing chalkboards with whiteboards and that seemed to be the new thing. As for technology usage in a classroom, I think it was projectors, movies, and when we were lucky and had a project we could use the computer lab. Entering school as a "teacher" six years after I graduated I was introduce to the Smart Board. This new computer tool in the classroom is probably the best thing I have seen a school use besides I pads, texting, tweeting, Google, Facebook, Elmo, etc... Schools are not at all the way I left them ten years ago.
Using technology to teach literacy is a fantastic thing. Our society has evolved so much into this digital world in which knowledge can be grasped at literally the fingertips. If students are more intrigued to learn using the latest technology, then why shouldn't we use it? I would incorporate blogging as part of journals and tweeting to make sure students are participating using media that they love. Technology is becoming more and more a part of our daily lives, and as teachers, we need to embrace it.
